What is the SiB?

SiB (BEST Ingenuity Week) is an event that takes place from 10 November to 14 November 2025, featuring workshops and seminars on various topics given by companies, professionals and members of the association.

During the week, there will be a competition in which participants must use both their ingenuity and skill to solve the proposed problem.

This competition is a case study, where different teams will compete against each other to solve a real-world problem.

These projects will be presented at the end of the day and prizes will be awarded.

Why participate in SiB?

Challenge yourself

We want you to rack your brains and show that you can tackle complex real-world problems. Join us to overcome them as a team.

Earn 0.5 ECTS credits

If you participate in the competition and attend one of the scheduled activities, you will be eligible for 0.5 ECTS credits.

We invite you to lunch

Domino's Pizza provides us with pizzas of all flavours at lunchtime to replenish our energy during the meal. If that weren't enough, during the competition you will have all kinds of snacks and drinks available.

Interdisciplinary teams

Even if you sign up alone, we will have an activity at the beginning of the event to create teams according to your preferences, so that you can overcome the challenge in the best possible way.

Awards

We have several agreements with companies to provide prizes for the winning teams so that they can attend these activities together.

Find out more about them below.

Frequently asked questions about the SiB Competition

How do I obtain the 0.5 ECTS credits?

To be eligible for 0.5 credits, you must participate in both the competition and attend the advertised activity.

Provide your details to the BEST Valladolid organiser at the activity so that your attendance can be recorded and verified.

What if I have an exam or compulsory class?

The competition will take place between 9:00 and 20:00, as you can see in the schedule on the website. As it is a long competition, we allow participants to be absent for justified reasons, such as attending compulsory classes or exams. As long as someone from the team is present at the competition, the team will not be disqualified.

I have allergies, dietary restrictions, or special needs.

On the registration form, you can let us know about any requirements you may have so that we can take them into account for meals, snacks or any other aspect of the competition.

Which courses can participate in the SiB?

SiB is open to all UVa students who are passionate about challenging themselves. Although it is advertised as a STEM competition, students from any degree programme can participate in the challenge, as we encourage multidisciplinary teams to contribute their perspectives.

How does the Case Study work?

It is a theoretical test to solve a real-world problem. We will allow from 9:30 to 16:45 to propose a solution that meets the established criteria. You will be given access to the internet and all the resources you need for the process.

I enjoyed the competition. Can I join BEST?

Of course, the SiB is just the tip of the iceberg of everything we do in this association. Ask any organiser about their experiences to convince yourself. If you're ready, you can sign up by filling out the form of interest here.
